I just returned from an 8 day saturation mission in the Aquarius Underwater Habitat run by the National Undersea Research Center (NURC) facility in Key Largo. The saturation mission was sponsored by NOAA's National Marine Sanctuary Program and involved four scientists conducting reef coral and fish assessments. I was team leader on the fish data collection. During the 8 days underwater we were able to dive for up to 9 hours/day at depths up to 95'. Going to the surface after saturation was not an option. The DataSafe performed flawlessly and was a huge asset not only to data collection, but also to peace of mind. A loss of any data would be very expensive in terms of saturation costs. I conducted up to 8 separate surveys per dive, and the DataSafe handled it all beautifully. It is well designed, well manufactured, and tough. It was especially comforting to know that after one survey was completed, the data was locked away in the DataSafe and I didn't have to worry about it drifting off. Even in the strong currents we sometimes encountered and the low visibility on dives following tropical storm Gabrielle, I was never worried about losing my data. For anyone collecting valuable information in the water, the DataSafe is a clear first choice.
